Bo'ness Scouts
Its ideals quickly spread throughout the UK and in time became the largest youth organisation in the world and it still is, although its programme changed to meet the needs of our young people.
The first scout group in Bo’ness was registered in 1911. The 3rd West Lothian which still exists today as the 3rd Bo'ness continues to provide Scouting for our young people in the Town.

THE 3RD BO’NESS
SCOUT GROUP
ABOUT US
The Bo’ness Scout Group and its Sections meet in the Scout Headquarters, Cairns Lane, Grangepans. The Headquarters has recently been refurbished to a very high standard featuring a large main hall, kitchen, meeting room and ladies and gents toilets downstairs with a larger meeting room and a gear storeroom upstairs.
These premises which are owned by the group and managed by an executive committee from the leaders, parents and supportive friends.
We are debt free and financially stable.
Our responsibilities and actions are defined by Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association. We are currently in the Falkirk District of the Forth Region Scouts.
WHAT WE WANT TO DO
Provide the Scouting experience for the young people of Bo’ness from 6 years to 25 years to have fun and interesting things to do within a structured programme designed for each section. We would like to restart the Scout Troop, Explorer Scouts in the near future.
We want to recruit and train enthusiastic new leaders for all sections.
WHERE WE ARE CURRENTLY
We run a Beaver Colony for boys and girls between 6 years and 8 years and a Cub Scout Pack for boys and girls between 8 and 10 years.
No leaders to restart a Scout Troop. Some of our Cubs go on to join a Scout group in Linlithgow where there are three groups with waiting lists.
Are we letting Bo’ness down or has the community of Bo’ness let us down?
BEAVERS
FOR BOYS AND GIRLS AGED 6 TO 8 YEARS
WE MEET IN THE SCOUT HALL, CAIRNS LANE ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS 6.00PM TO 7.00PM
SO ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A BEAVER SCOUT?
WELL Do you want lots of fun?
The Beaver Scout motto is “fun and friends”. We will play lots of games, do craft things, sing songs, listen to stories and go on visits. You might be able to go on a Beaver sleepover when you spend a night away from home with the rest of the colony.
Once you have been to Beavers for four weeks you will have your investiture. This is a big word but what it really means is that you will be a proper member of the Beaver family and you will be presented with your first badges to put on your beaver sweatshirt.
You will be able to work to achieve other badges. By the time you leave Beavers to go to Cubs you should have quite a collection.
* Beaver Scouts shake hands with their left hand.
* Beaver Scouts treat other people well and listen.
* A Beaver Scout is a good friend to have.
Beaver Scout Leaders do not allow bullying, do not be afraid to tell us.
If you are interested in joining us you must have the permission of your parent or guardian. We will provide any further information by calling 01506 206661, 01506 822462 or 01506 822642.
CUBS
FOR BOYS AND GIRLS AGED BETWEEN 8 AND 10 YEARS
WE MEET IN THE SCOUT HALL, CAIRNS LANE, ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS 7.15PM TO 8.30PM.
The pack is divided into small groups called Sixes led by an older girl or boy called a Sixer. Some activities are done as Sixes and some with the whole pack together. We will try to place you in a Six so that you can make friends but if we can, we try to move you to a six where you would be happy.
After a few weeks learning a few essential things you need to know and had a taste of what it means being a member. If you decide you want to be a Cub Scout, you can be invested. Your parent/guardian will also be invited to this simple ceremony. At your investiture you will make a promise and be expected to live up to that promise.
The Cub Scout promise is … I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Cub Scout Law.
The Cub Scout Law is … Cub Scouts always do their best, think of others before themselves and do a good turn every day.
You then will be presented with your badges to put on your shirt and in the time you are in the cubs you can achieve many other badges. We do and learn many other things but you have lots of fun.
UNFORTUNATELY AT THIS TIME WE HAVE NO SCOUT TROOP DUE TO LACK OF LEADERS BUT WE HOPE TO RESTART SOON. BUT IF YOU AND FRIENDS ARE OVER 11 YEARS AND WOULD BE INTERESTED, PHONE ONE OF THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS LISTED BELOW.
IF AS A PARENT OR YOUNG PERSON YOU REQUIRE FURTHER INFORMATION OR ADVICE … PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS BELOW. WE WILL BE PLEASED TO ASSIST YOU.
