BO'NESS HISTORY BOOKS

  • INDEX OF EACH BOOK

Before moving from my home town of Bo'ness to the wilds of the Highlands, I was very much involved in the history of the town. I then collated all the research I had collected into books and self published them. Many people were good enough to buy them then and as there may be a new audience, after finding this excellent site, I thought I would put the remainder up of sale...£6.00 each incl. p&p

series 1 (blue book) has 6 books.. tells the history of each area of the town e.g. Kinneil, Carriden, Town Centre, also of the Churches of the town and the history of the Bo'ness Fair..This has many old photos included.

series 2 (yellow book) has 6 books. These are reminiscences of people telling their stories in the 1800's..of their lives and work in the area. Women and children down our pits, the Bo'ness whaling fleet in the arctic, sailors talking of their time with Admiral Hope in the China wars. These are fascinating personal stories printed in the Bo'ness Journal and elsewhere in the late 1800's. These also contain an insight into everday living of the people of the town, of conditions, prices, schooling, of the many other industries which crowded into the small space of the town centre...Did you know that the then street cleaner was a pig which was to roam free and do the job!!!

Many of these story tellers have their photos included so maybe you will find an ancestor!!

We also have a list of gravestones in the old cemetary at Corbiehall, behind theoriginal parish church building. This may be of help to overseas readers of this site and I am happy to send copies.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
