Bo'ness – or Borrowstounness – is a former port and industrial town on the south of the River Forth, two miles north of Linlithgow and eight miles east of Falkirk. The area is steeped in history – the Antonine Wall reached the Forth just east of Bo'ness, and there is a Roman fort on the Kinneil Estate, where James Watt worked on his steam engine. Trade from Holland and France and industries including salt–panning, mining, and ship-building made Bo'ness a wealthy burgh. The theatre group, formed in 1954, has premises on Borrowstoun Road and stages at least two productions a year.
