Disappointment at RBS Bo'ness branch closure annoucement
There has been disappointment at the announcement that RBS are to close their branch in Bo'ness, with the Hope Street branch set to shut in April..
MSP for Bo'ness, Angus MacDonald, has said he is "deeply disappointed" to hear of the planned closure of the Bo'ness branch of RBS, which the bank has announced is due to close on 12th April.
RBS customers are being told that they will continue to receive a full banking service if they travel to the branch in Linlithgow over three and a half miles away.
A disappointed Angus MacDonald said he would be contacting the bank to ask RBS to reconsider the closure decision. He said:
“This is a big blow to Bo’ness. A bank that is over 80 per cent in public ownership should not be treating their customers in this way. There are elderly and disabled residents of Bo'ness and Blackness who are unable to travel further afield to visit their local bank and are not keen on internet banking.
"It is extremely unfair and inconsiderate to ask RBS customers to drive or get the bus to other branches in Linlithgow, Grangemouth or Falkirk with the added cost and inconvenience that this would incur, especially for the elderly and infirm."
"RBS must reconsider this decision before it's too late."
RBS said they have been working closely with the Post Office to make changes to its IT systems to enable customers to use the Post Office branch network. Personal and business customers can now carry out cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at their local Post Office using their debit card.
