Hunt on for owner of lost Bo'ness cockatiel
2 JulyHas anyone in Bo'ness lost a cockatiel? The Scottish SPCA is appealing to find the owner of a stray exotic bird after it was spotted being bullied by a crow in Bo'ness.
A member of the public contacted the charity after seeing the brightly coloured bird being dropped out of the sky by a crow in Cowdenhill Road on Monday 21st June.
Inspector Leanne McPake arrived to rescue the exotic bird, which is recovering at the Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balerno.
Inspector McPake said: "The finder said the bird was dropped by a crow, which is very unusual, but it's not uncommon for crows to mob other birds that encroach on their territory.
"Escaped exotic birds like parrots and cockatiels are often attacked by crows, particularly as their brightly coloured plumage makes them an easy target.
"The cockatiel is none the worse for the ordeal and after a night of rest at my house it was very chirpy the next morning, in fact, it's quite a vocal little bird!
"We're sure someone is missing this beautiful bird because it has clearly been well cared for. Hopefully the owner will recognise the cockatiel and give us a call."
The cockatiel's owner is being invited to contact the Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999 to reclaim their bird.
