2/7/2008Motor sport returns to Bo'ness
Motor sport is making a return to Bo'ness after being away for almost 40 years.
And locals are gearing up for some racing action, when a speed hill climb meeting - the first held here since 1966 - is hosted in the grounds of Kinneil Estate in August.
The historic venue, hugely popular with drivers years ago, is now being restored with the permission and co-operation of Falkirk Council.
The Bo'ness Hill Climb Revival (BHCR), founded in 2007, is organising the event in conjunction with the local authority.
Entries for the first meeting, on August 9 and 10, will be restricted to club members and confined to historic racing and sports cars pre-1972.
And those who go along will be in for a real treat - one of the most famous hill climb cars of all time has been entered.
Basil Davenport's Spider - which held the outright hill record at Shelsley Walsh for several years in the 1920s - will be driven by its present owner David Leigh.
Bo'ness was the first purpose built motor sport venue in Scotland, and had the honour of hosting the very first round of the inaugural RAC British Hill Climb Championship, on May 17 1947.
Top Grand Prix drivers who competed there included Jim Clark, Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart.
