20/11/2009See world-class production of The Nutcracker at the Hippodrome this Christmas

Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker' is the most often performed ballet of all time and for about two months around every Christmas, literally hundreds of versions are staged by professional companies and dance schools around the globe. It is the traditional introduction for small children, and has given many thousands their first glimpse of classical ballet.

This Christmas the Hippodrome, Bo'ness gives you the chance to see a world-class production of this seasonal classic when it presents a magnificent performance of 'The Nutcracker', filmed live and projected digitally in the Hippodrome's stunning auditorium on 20th December at 2:30pm and on Christmas Eve at 7:30pm.

The unique interpretation, choreographed by Kirill Simonov, was filmed in the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg - home to the Kirov Ballet company and to the ballet's first staging in 1892. The show stars the eye-catchingly vivid Russian soloist Irina Golub as young Masha/Clara, presented with the gift of a nutcracker on Christmas Eve by mysterious toymaker Drosselmeyer (stylishly played by well-known mime artist and founder of the avant-garde Derevo theatre company: Anton Adasinsky). As the clock strikes midnight the nutcracker (the impeccably virtuoso Leonid Sarafanov) comes to life, and a magical adventure unfolds.
