Take part in Bo’ness golf tournament to help ex-servicemen
Ex-serviceman Billy Marr is looking for golfers to take part in a charity fundraising tournament later in the month.
The 18-hole competition is being held at West Lothian Golf Club to raise funds for Erskine Hospital. Unfortunately, the miserable conditions we’ve had recently have put people off taking part.
Mr Marr said: “How much we raise depends how many teams we get. We haven’t been able to get as many people as we’d like, I think because of the weather. We’re looking for as many people as we can get.”
The tournament, on Monday, July 23, will be played over 18 holes. There will be a £400 prize for the winning team, £300 for the team in second-place and £200 for the third. There will also be other prizes.
Mr Marr added: “The competition is on the day after the Scottish Open and it’s for Erskine Hospital, which helps Scottish veterans. I’m an ex-serviceman and veteran myself. I was in the Royal Air Force for 14 years and I did eight years in the Territorial Army.
“We’ve been fundraising for Erskine and doing things for the troops for some time now. At my 70th birthday I didn’t want any presents; instead I wanted people to donate to Erskine and we managed to raise over £800.”
Entry is £150 for each team of four and will include a filled roll and coffee on arrival and a two-course meal after the game.
The tournament is on Monday, July 23 at West Lothian Golf Club. To register your team’s interest or to book a place, contact Billy Marr on 01506 510634, email manager@westlothiangc.com, or contact the club on 01506 826030.
